Orbiting Thistle

Orbiting Thistle is an opportunity to learn special effects with silk and metallic threads and traditional of couching techniques. Central to the composition is a thistle with an Ultra Suede bulb. Silk lattice work is laid over the matte finish of the padded surface of the thistle. Leaves are anchored to the canvas surface with an unusual technique. Rows of Japanese metal couched in a traditional pattern form the entwined bands. Suggested colors are cream silks, with silver Japanese thread and gray Congress Cloth, or gold Japanese metal and beige congress cloth.

Level: Intermediate
Ground Fabric: Congress Cloth
Threads/materials: Japanese Metal #7,Soie d’Alger, Soie Ovale, Soie Gobelins, Soie Perlée, UltraSuede™, Felt padding, Needles, Tracing paper. A set of koma is required when stitching Orbiting Thistle.
