Autumn Sentinel

Scroll down to see large picture

As the soft haze of a October afternoon creeps across the fields, the Autumn Sentinel stands watch over the corn shocks and pumpkins. While this is a fun design to stitch, it also affords the opportunity to practice realistic shading to give the illusion of round objects.

Techniques studied while stitching Autumn Sentinel include: realistic shading, burden stitch variation, an alteration of battlement couching, the importance of light source location, using values of a hue to create depth, perspective, and how to use non-traditional materials for special effects.
