GuilfordScroll down to see large picture Two lustrous silk flowers, each with a sparkling bullion center, nestle in a bed of leaves to form the focal point of this highly diverse composition. Surrounding the flowers are scallops filled with four different blackwork patterns and four different lattice patterns. Each can form the basis for additional patterns, and each one can easily be adapted to other projects. The entire motif is encircled by a background of custom painted gauze over gold or silver sparkled congress cloth. Drying time for the gauze which forms the background will not permit it being done in class, thus it will be painted by the instructor in advance of class. However, the process will be described in detail and supply sources given. There is no counting of gauze threads. Bring these charming flowers to life, while using a thread which mimics flat silk, but is so much easier to stitch. Techniques covered in this intermediate level class include: realistic shading the easy-to-learn way, directional shading, four blackwork patterns, four lattice patterns, a newly developed method for couching twisted cord in a continuous line, bullion seeding, and a background technique which emphasizes the significance of texture in a design composition. Basic color theory as it applies to depth perception and shading will be discussed.
